Curing Anxiety with Medication

It is very natural for all of us to feel anxious at some moments. We feel anxious regarding our exams, new jobs or when meeting someone that we love and care for. Anxiety can bring happiness as well as fear or frightful experiences.

However, anxiety with depression, fear and worries is a debilitating condition and threatens to have an adverse affect on your health. It is a mental disorder, which takes away the peace of mind of a person.

Thankfully, medical science has found medications for anxiety. Yes, anxiety and medication are similar to the opposing sides of the Trojan War. The fight between the two results in medication winning in most cases.

They fall under certain categories and have special characteristics.

Medicines under the first section are called Benzodiazepines. They are effective in reducing the panic attacks, phobic fears and chronic depression. Some of the notable medicines of this category are as follows

1). Alprazolam is prescribed in case of general anxiety, phobia and social phobias.
2). Clonazepam is effective in treating panic attacks and social phobias
3). Diazepam is for general anxiety, phobia
4). Lorazepam is for symptoms of general anxiety, phobias
5). Oxazepam has been found to be effective in treating common anxiety and some phobias.

Then comes the Beta Blockers Some medicines of this section are: -
1) Propranolol is prescribed mostly for social phobias.
2) Atenolol is effective for some of the social phobias

The third category comprises of Tricyclic Antidepressants. They are effective for treating many ailments. Some of the common medicines of this category are

1) Imipramine is effective for treating depression, panic, and general anxiety.
2) Desipramine is meant for treating depression.

A Doctor prescribes these medications after confirming type of anxiety the patient is suffering from. Mostly psychiatrists prefer giving medications along with some other forms of therapies. The medications meant for depression should never be taken without consulting a doctor. Doing so can result in adverse physical and psychological side effects.
