Physical and environmental stress expresses itself in a number of ways.  Stress headache or tension headache is usually triggered by an internal stressors or environmental factors. There are a number of environmental sources that may cause stress headaches. Problems related to relationships, work, finance, family or friends might cause tension headaches.

Looking at the problem a little deeper, tension headaches are caused by tense scalp and neck muscles. Tension headaches may be caused by straining the neck by working over a computer for a prolonged period of time. There is other symptom such as shallow breathing, muscle pain and increased blood pressure that accompanies a tension headache.

A stress headache is a mild throbbing pain that can last for a period of 30 minutes to an entire day. Unlike migraines, a stress headache does not have symptoms such as throbbing or nausea and vomiting or sensitivity to light and sound.

 * Difficulty in falling asleep and staying asleep
 * Disturbed concentration
 * Irritability
   
The best way to reduce the pain from a tension headache is to take a mild analgesic and to relax. There are mild exercises that help to relieve the pain and tension of a stress headache. Deep breathing and yogic postures are also beneficial.

The best way to prevent stress headaches is to manage and control stress levels. Stress management includes a number of techniques to manage stress. Exercise, positive thinking, yoga and making the right choices in the food that we eat help us to manage and handle stress.
