These health issues could also trigger feelings of unhappiness and subsequently lead to depression. * Personal loss - Any personal loss in terms of death of near ones, or differences with other family members could also make an elderly person depressed. Treatment Go out in the world - Sitting at home alone all day will not help treat the problem. Instead, it will make you even more depressed. Take a trip to the nearby market or simply go for a walk in the nearby park. Do things that you like - Take out time for the activities that you enjoy. Read a book, listen to music, talk to your friends etc. It will make you feel relaxed and happy too. Eat healthy meals - Eating a healthy meal is not just good for your body but your mind as well. Include plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables in your daily diet. Exercise - It certainly is a little difficult to exercise when you are old. But, you can always go for a long walk or do simple stretching exercises. Join a laughter club - This is the best thing that you can do to fight depression. Laughing releases feel good hormones known as endorphins inside the body and helps you fight the problem better.
